I worked on this collaborative documentary exploring society’s expectations and idealised images of women, as well as the rejection of these norms and the empowerment that follows.
The film reflects themes of girlhood, femininity, and identity. To support this cause, we organised a bake sale and donated the funds raised to Women’s Aid and their vital work. Together, we raised over £200!
Role
Co- Cinematographer
The title cards were inspired by a Swan Lake–influenced studio shoot, which encouraged creative experimentation through a stereotypically feminine aesthetic, using props such as glitter, ribbon, flowers, and beauty products to explore gender expectations.
We filmed using Blackmagic cameras for video and a Canon 600D for stills, ensuring consistent quality throughout. For photography, I expanded my technical skills by using an Elinchrom transmitter with the Canon 600D to wirelessly control flash, achieving more professional results.
Challenges
Audio Quality
Achieving clean, undistorted audio during Vox Pop style interviews was challenging in busy, noisy public environments.
A
Studio Lighting
Filming the title cards shown between discussion topics required frequent adjustments to achieve an ethereal, high contrast lighting style.
